Inner Tubes For Pneumatic Tires

Inner tubes for pneumatic tires are inflatable rubber tubes that are placed inside the tire to hold the air pressure necessary to support the weight of a vehicle. They are typically made of butyl rubber, which is a synthetic rubber that is highly impermeable to air. The inner tube is designed to be slightly smaller than the tire it is meant to fit, so that when it is inflated, it expands and fills the tire cavity. The use of inner tubes in pneumatic tires dates back to the early days of the automobile, when tires were made of solid rubber and provided a rough ride. The invention of the pneumatic tire, which had a flexible outer casing filled with air, greatly improved ride comfort and handling. However, the air pressure needed to support the weight of the vehicle could not be maintained without the use of an inner tube. Inner tubes are available in a variety of sizes to fit different tire sizes and types, including bicycle tires, motorcycle tires, and car tires. They are also available in different valve types, such as the Schrader valve and the Presta valve, which are used to inflate the tube with air. While inner tubes are still commonly used in many types of tires, some modern tires are designed to be tubeless, eliminating the need for an inner tube. Tubeless tires have a special lining that prevents air from escaping, allowing the tire to hold air pressure without the use of an inner tube.
