Icicle Lighting

Icicle Lighting

Icicle Lighting is an innovative architectural lighting design that seamlessly merges natural inspiration with contemporary interior aesthetics, created by Iranian designer Atieh Farahanifar. This sophisticated illumination fixture, measuring 400mm in width, 400mm in depth, and 690mm in height, employs concrete as its primary material, manufactured through advanced 3D printing technology. The design draws its conceptual foundation from the crystalline formation of natural icicles and the interplay of light with frozen water, a metaphorical connection that bridges Eastern symbolism, where water represents light, with modern design sensibilities. The fixture's distinctive characteristic lies in its deliberate use of concrete, creating a compelling contrast between the material's robust physical presence and the gentle diffusion of light through strategically placed surface fissures. This juxtaposition achieves a harmonious balance between structural solidity and ethereal illumination, effectively transforming interior spaces by evoking the tranquil atmosphere of natural phenomena. The design, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category in 2017, demonstrates exceptional innovation in its approach to emotional design, successfully creating an immersive experience that transports users away from urban chaos while maintaining compatibility with contemporary interior settings. The lighting fixture's unique construction method integrates all electronic components within its concrete shell, while its thoughtful design enables light to emanate softly through surface cracks, producing a calming ambiance that resonates with the designer's intention to forge a deeper connection between artificial environments and natural elements.
