Iceberg Table
Iceberg Table is an innovative furniture design that serves as both a functional piece and an environmental statement piece, created by Egyptian designer Sameh Emam. This conceptual table, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, masterfully combines artistic expression with environmental consciousness to draw attention to global warming and its effects on polar ice caps. The design features a striking composition of two oval-shaped clear glass panels that rotate around an axis, with a central white acrylic form crafted to represent an iceberg. The lower glass panel symbolizes historical water levels, while the upper panel represents the elevated water levels resulting from melting icebergs, creating a powerful visual metaphor for climate change. Measuring 110 centimeters in length, 60 centimeters in width, and 50 centimeters in height, the table employs sophisticated CNC machining techniques in its construction. The rotating glass panels not only serve a practical purpose by maximizing the table's serving functionality but also create a dynamic, water-like movement that enhances the conceptual narrative. This piece, particularly suited for office or reception areas, demonstrates how furniture design can transcend mere utility to become a medium for environmental advocacy and consciousness-raising. The table's clean lines and transparent elements create an elegant aesthetic while maintaining its powerful message about environmental conservation, making it a significant contribution to both furniture design and environmental awareness through design.
