HuangRan Patron Saint Wine Packaging is an innovative beverage packaging design that masterfully integrates Chinese mythology and contemporary aesthetics, featuring four distinct patron saints: the Green Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Black Tortoise. This sophisticated packaging design, created by Lynn Tsang and Sha Shen, represents a significant advancement in cultural-contemporary fusion design, earning recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category. The design employs anthropomorphic interpretations of traditional Chinese mythological figures, combined with elements from Chinese opera, to create a fresh visual narrative that appeals to modern consumers while preserving cultural heritage. The packaging structure consists of an up-and-down cover system, with dimensions of 220mm x 160mm x 160mm, utilizing advanced production techniques including silver foil paper printing, matt lamination, UV coating, hot stamping, and strategic perforation. The outer box features carefully planned hollow sections that create a layered effect, while the inner box displays the four patron saints positioned according to traditional directional symbolism. This design solution particularly addresses contemporary young consumers' lifestyle concerns regarding health and wellness, transforming traditional Chinese rice wine packaging through sophisticated material choices and printing processes. The project, developed between September 2019 and February 2020 in Changsha, demonstrates exceptional attention to detail while maintaining cost-effectiveness, successfully elevating the perception of traditional rice wine through modern design language.
