How Is It Going? Exhibition Identity

How is it going? Exhibition identity is an innovative exhibition identity design project created in 2005 by Korean designers Daeki Shim, Jin Jung, and Jinsoo Seo for a collective exhibition of ten emerging designers in Korea. The design concept ingeniously draws inspiration from road maintenance and repair site signage graphics commonly found throughout Korea, transforming these utilitarian elements into a sophisticated visual language that serves both aesthetic and functional purposes. The identity system encompasses a comprehensive suite of materials, including posters (688 x 973 mm), flyers (297 x 420 mm), and tickets (210 x 90 mm), all unified through a distinctive visual approach that reimagines industrial signage as exhibition wayfinding. The project, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design category, demonstrates exceptional creativity in its adaptation of everyday urban elements into meaningful design communication. The identity system's development involved extensive research into the rapid pace of change in contemporary society, reflecting this theme through its visual language. The designers successfully overcame various challenges, particularly in capturing promotional photographs at actual construction sites to maintain authenticity in the design's context. Created during May-June 2005 and exhibited at Zero One Design Center in July 2005, this project represents a significant milestone in Korean exhibition design, effectively merging practical wayfinding with conceptual artistic expression. The identity system's success lies in its ability to transform utilitarian street graphics into a sophisticated exhibition communication tool, demonstrating how everyday visual elements can be elevated through thoughtful design intervention.
