House S.Y. Residential Home

House S.Y. Residential Home is an innovative residential architectural project completed in 2019 in Nagoya-shi, Aichi-ken, Japan, that exemplifies contemporary Japanese residential design through its sophisticated integration of form and function. The structure, designed by architect Osamu Hamada, features a distinctive white rectangular parallelepiped composition that creates dynamic spatial relationships through subtle shifts and overlaps in its geometric forms. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning residence encompasses a total floor area of 453.54 square meters spread across two floors above ground and one basement level, utilizing a mixed structure of wood and steel-reinforced concrete (SRC). The design masterfully addresses the challenges presented by its 365-square-meter sloped site through thoughtful ground design and structural solutions, including a robust concrete basement that doubles as a retaining wall. The residence's programmatic organization reflects a careful consideration of the client's lifestyle, incorporating specialized spaces for various pursuits including an extensive four-car garage, a golf driving range, and a sophisticated audio room equipped with a two-post lift system that allows for the unique experience of enjoying music while maintaining vehicles. The exterior is characterized by its clean lines and modern aesthetic, featuring dry board construction with spray finish and galvalume steel plate roofing, while the interior showcases refined materials such as teak flooring and plaster finishes. A notable feature of the home is its advanced lighting system, which can alter the ambiance of spaces through color variations, creating different atmospheric experiences throughout the day. The project demonstrates exceptional attention to technical requirements, including compliance with height regulations and the integration of specialized equipment, while maintaining architectural coherence and providing a tranquil retreat from urban life.
