House Of Tubes Residential
House of Tubes Residential is an innovative architectural masterpiece that harmoniously merges a 1970s abandoned structure with contemporary design elements, situated in the Metropolitan area of Monterrey, Mexico. This dual-purpose structure, completed in 2019, serves both as a private residence for a family of five and as an art museum capable of accommodating over 300 visitors. The design, conceived by Mexican architect Enrique Leal, draws inspiration from the iconic Cerro de la Silla mountain, mimicking its distinctive peaks through thoughtfully angled volumes. The project's defining feature is its innovative use of water as a unifying element, with a pool serving as the architectural bridge between different historical periods and functional spaces. The structure, spanning 1,153.20 square meters on a 2,283.29 square meter site, employs a minimalist material palette of just three light-toned finishes: travertine marble, natural oak wood, and white paint, allowing natural light to dramatically animate the spaces through its interaction with walls, floors, and ceilings. The building's construction utilizes a steel framework with block-filled walls and Durock with fiberglass insulation, incorporating sustainable features such as solar panels that provide 80% of the energy requirements, LED lighting, and rainwater harvesting systems. This exceptional architectural achievement, recognized with a Silver A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, represents a masterful balance between preservation and innovation, successfully creating a dialogue between contrasting architectural languages while maintaining functional efficiency and aesthetic sophistication.
