House For Beth Single Family Residential

House for Beth Single Family Residential is an architecturally significant single-family residence located in Door County, Wisconsin, that masterfully integrates vernacular agricultural architecture with contemporary residential design principles. The structure, designed by David Salmela FAIA and Mailini Srivastava AIA, pays homage to the region's diminishing farmstead heritage while establishing a modern living space that harmonizes with its surroundings. Distinguished by its steep-pitched steel roof and naturally aging cedar siding, the residence features distinctive architectural elements including a rear lean-to and thoughtfully composed square windows with white trim detailing. The building's exterior incorporates a black paper and resin Richlite material at its base, ensuring durability and protection for the cedar siding while maintaining aesthetic cohesion. Situated among native grasses and evergreens, the residence's east-west orientation maximizes natural light exposure, while white wood fences delineate the parking area and entrance pathway. The interior design embraces minimalist aesthetics with white drywall, pine wood floors, and strategic color accents, particularly evident in the kitchen's fresh composition of white casework, stone countertops, and blue-tile backsplash. This exemplary architectural project, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, demonstrates exceptional achievement in addressing contemporary residential needs while preserving and interpreting local architectural heritage through innovative design solutions and material selections.
