Hounds-Tooth Table. Console Table

Hounds-Tooth Table. Console table is an innovative furniture design piece that masterfully reinterprets the classic houndstooth pattern into a sculptural console table form, created by Nigerian-American designer Olu Babacamp Campbell. This sophisticated piece of furniture, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, showcases a striking geometric composition featuring 14 precisely engineered angular points that create a continuous, flowing silhouette. Crafted from mild steel sheet and finished with a protective red lacquer coating, the table demonstrates exceptional structural engineering with its reinforced base design that successfully supports its extended length of 1524 mm, while maintaining a depth of 457.2 mm and height of 1041.4 mm. The design's versatility is evident in its dual functionality, serving both as a console table and an oversized coffee table, making it an adaptable piece for various interior settings. The manufacturing process employs advanced CNC cutting technology to achieve maximum precision in the angular formations, with each edge carefully chamfered to maintain the design's geometric integrity. The table's artistic merit lies in its successful translation of a traditional textile pattern into a three-dimensional form, while its technical excellence is demonstrated through the innovative solution to weight distribution and structural stability challenges. This piece, developed between February 2013 and May 2014 in Baltimore, Maryland, represents a significant achievement in contemporary furniture design, combining artistic vision with practical functionality and structural innovation.
