Horizon Below 75cm Infant Daycare Center

Horizon Below 75cm Infant Daycare Center is an innovative architectural project that revolutionizes early childhood care facilities through its thoughtful design approach centered on children's perspectives and developmental needs. Located in Yilan County, Taiwan, this groundbreaking 862.03-square-meter facility represents a significant advancement in rural public daycare infrastructure, specifically designed to address the unique requirements of newborns, infants, and toddlers. The design's most distinctive feature is its carefully calibrated façade openings, positioned at heights ranging from 45 to 75 centimeters, enabling young children to view the outside world from their natural eye level, thereby fostering sensory development and spatial awareness. Designed by Tsung Wei Yang, Ziling Wei, and Janmichael Antoni, the facility harmoniously integrates modern architectural principles with local materials, ensuring both sustainability and low maintenance while effectively adapting to the regional climate. The project, completed in June 2023, serves as a pioneering model for rural childcare infrastructure, incorporating spaces for health and childbirth education alongside nurturing environments for infant care. Its architectural excellence has been recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, acknowledging its innovative approach to spatial design, functional efficiency, and social relevance. The facility's design philosophy emphasizes the importance of creating environments that respect children's physical scale while promoting their developmental needs, setting new standards for infant daycare center design through its child-centric architectural approach.
