Home Sweet Home Residential Apartment

Home Sweet Home Residential Apartment is an innovative residential interior design project completed in Hong Kong that exemplifies sophisticated space optimization and contemporary living solutions. This transformative renovation of a 50-year-old apartment features an unconventional linear layout where two bedrooms are seamlessly integrated into the main living area through concealed doors that blend harmoniously with the surrounding walls and decor. The design, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2019, masterfully addresses the challenges of low ceiling heights near the entrance by incorporating dark wooden stripes in plastic laminate finishes to create an illusion of vertical expansion. The apartment's most striking feature is its strategic orientation towards Victoria Harbour, with balcony doors that not only frame spectacular views but also facilitate natural light penetration throughout the space, culminating in a glass-enclosed study room that maximizes visual transparency. The thoughtful material selection includes durable plastic laminate and laminated floorboards, chosen specifically to withstand daily wear from young children while maintaining aesthetic appeal. The interior's sophisticated color palette, dominated by pale walls and ceilings, works in concert with the linear design elements to amplify the sense of spaciousness. The project, completed between July and December 2018, demonstrates exceptional space planning through the reorganization of bathrooms and kitchen layouts, successfully incorporating an additional study room while maintaining functional efficiency. This residential design showcases a masterful balance between practical family living requirements and contemporary aesthetic sensibilities, effectively transforming a challenging architectural space into a harmonious modern dwelling.
