Holdaplate Cocktail Plate is an innovative tableware solution designed to address the common challenge of simultaneously managing food and beverages during social gatherings. Developed by John Zox and Ding Liu, this ingenious design features a distinctive contoured periphery that seamlessly accommodates various glass sizes while maintaining elegant aesthetics. The 6-inch plate incorporates an ergonomic design principle where the glass remains naturally secured by the user's index finger, while the remaining fingers provide support beneath the plate, creating an effortless and intuitive handling experience. The design, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware and Cookware Design category, represents a significant advancement in cocktail party serviceware through its thoughtful combination of form and function. Manufactured using injection-molded polypropylene with a precise thickness of 1mm, the plate maintains structural integrity while remaining lightweight at just 0.68 ounces. The design's versatility extends to its material adaptability, with variations available in melamine, porcelain, compostable molded-fiber-bagasse, and bamboo. The development process involved extensive research and prototyping, including 40 nylon 3D printed iterations, ensuring optimal stackability and structural requirements while maintaining manufacturing feasibility. The plate's dimensions of 152mm x 127mm x 19mm were carefully calculated to achieve perfect balance and usability, making it suitable for both casual gatherings and formal events. This design solution emerged from comprehensive user research and testing across diverse age groups, incorporating crucial insights about weight distribution and handling preferences.
