Hitobito Lighting Installation

Hitobito Lighting Installation

Hitobito Lighting Installation is an innovative architectural lighting installation that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of traditional Asian craftsmanship with contemporary design principles. Created for the 2023 Taipei City lantern festival and situated in the Song Shan Cultural Park's new immigrant district, this immersive structure spans 9.8 meters in width, 7.8 meters in depth, and reaches 3.5 meters in height. The installation's distinctive design draws inspiration from the Chinese character representing a person, embodying the concept of mutual support through its dual entrance configuration that converges into a unified space. The structure employs a sophisticated combination of manually bent steel pipes and traditional bamboo crafting, featuring a meticulously woven façade composed of 1-centimeter bamboo dowels that creates an organic, three-dimensional curvature. The installation's thoughtful illumination strategy incorporates warm lighting and a centrally positioned projector that casts motion graphics onto the floor, creating an emotionally resonant environment that synchronizes visitors' emotional states with the space. Designed by Daisuke Nagatomo and Minnie Jan, along with team members Jenny Yeh and Hao Sung, this Bronze A' Design Award-winning creation in the Lighting Projects and Light Art Design category stands as a testament to cultural diversity and architectural innovation. The installation's significance lies in its ability to create a meaningful destination that collects and reflects people's memories of their homeland while celebrating the multicultural fabric of Taipei City through its architectural narrative and experiential design.
