Hik 9 Restaurant

Hik 9 Restaurant

Hik 9 Restaurant is an innovative culinary establishment located in Shanghai, China, distinguished by its sophisticated architectural transformation and exceptional interior design that earned it the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category. Originally a bicycle parking garage, this 160-square-meter space was masterfully reimagined by architect Jeffrey Zee into an exclusive dining venue that harmoniously blends functionality with aesthetic excellence. The restaurant's distinctive features include a specialized dry-aging room constructed from Himalayan rock salt, an open food storage area, and a professional wine cellar, all designed to create an transparent and engaging dining experience. The architectural design cleverly repurposed the original building's structure, transforming the parking deck into an elegant dining area and converting the ramps into sophisticated wine cellars. The material palette showcases a thoughtful combination of bronze and black walnut, complemented by fair-faced concrete walls and white oak elements in the wine storage areas, creating a warm and naturally inviting atmosphere. The open-kitchen concept promotes transparency and trust between culinary staff and patrons, while the multi-layered spatial design maximizes the venue's functionality. This award-winning establishment, completed in December 2020, represents a significant achievement in contemporary restaurant design, particularly notable for its innovative space utilization and its successful integration of professional culinary facilities within an intimate dining environment.
