Hideaway Chair Children's Chair

Hideaway Chair Children's Chair

Hideaway Chair Children's Chair is an innovative furniture design that revolutionizes the concept of children's seating through its unique spherical form and child-centric ergonomic approach. This groundbreaking design, which earned the prestigious Platinum A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, provides children with a comforting sense of enclosure and a private sanctuary within busy environments. The chair features a distinctive molded plywood construction complemented by upholstered panels, crafted from sustainable New Zealand Pine plywood and natural Tawa wood veneer, with 80% New Zealand wool upholstery fabric. Its unconventional design philosophy emerged from extensive observational research of children's natural sitting behaviors, acknowledging that young users interact with furniture differently than adults. The chair's low-to-ground positioning and encompassing spherical shell, comprised of four swooping semicircular sections, deliberately accommodates various sitting positions, allowing children to sit sideways, upside-down, or curled up as they prefer. Measuring 780mm in width and 1010mm in height, the design incorporates practical features such as gaps between bent ply sections for easy cleaning and removable upholstered panels secured with innovative Fast Mount clips. The chair's contemporary aesthetic is achieved through its unique curving front profile and faceted side profile, while its construction emphasizes durability to withstand the demands of childcare environments. Notable for being the first furniture product globally to receive Stage 1 Child Labour Free Certification, this design represents a significant advancement in children's furniture, combining functional innovation with sustainable manufacturing practices and child-centered design principles.
