Hidden House

Hidden House is an exemplary architectural and interior design project that masterfully integrates regional aesthetics with contemporary design principles, situated in the mountainous terrain of Taishan, China. This 450-square-meter residential space, completed in 2019, demonstrates exceptional environmental adaptation through its thoughtful construction utilizing local Taishan Stone and lime plaster, creating a structure that naturally regulates temperature throughout seasonal changes. The design philosophy centers on harmoniously blending natural elements with artificial constructions, achieved through a sophisticated dual-platform layout that responds to the site's topography. The higher elevation showcases regional construction techniques and distinctive plastering, while the lower level features carefully considered stone and sand pathways that create circular landscape formations. The interior spaces are characterized by innovative solutions to natural lighting challenges, incorporating large French windows that forge a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor environments. The structural integrity is maintained through an intelligent weight distribution system, where wooden ring beams effectively support the ceiling load, minimizing pressure on the stone walls. The design includes sophisticated amenities such as a tea room featuring a hot bath pool and fireplace, exemplifying the perfect marriage of traditional architecture with modern comfort. This project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, represents a significant achievement in sustainable and culturally sensitive architectural design, demonstrating how contemporary residential spaces can maintain strong connections to their natural surroundings while preserving regional architectural heritage.
