Hecang Training School is an innovative educational facility and architectural masterpiece located in Changsha, China, exemplifying a harmonious blend of functional design and symbolic architecture. Completed in 2019, this 670-square-meter interior space project draws its conceptual inspiration from traditional granaries, metaphorically representing the educational process as a cycle of sowing and harvesting knowledge. The design, created by Yan Fang Shen, employs a sophisticated spatial hierarchy through a staggered-floor structure that strategically positions various functional areas, with training spaces on higher levels and classrooms below. The interior design scheme primarily utilizes a palette of gray and wood tones, creating a warm yet professional atmosphere that reinforces the granary concept while maintaining contemporary appeal. Notable architectural features include an arc-shaped lobby with a C-design that references the school's identity, an innovative lighting solution incorporating inductive linear systems, and a unique interior courtyard featuring wooden grain floor tiles that extend from ground to ceiling. The facility includes specialized areas such as a centrally-located gymnasium with glass walls for transparency, photography rooms, studios, and multimedia classrooms. A particularly distinctive element is the integration of natural elements through a tilted glass ceiling design that transforms rainfall into a natural water curtain, creating an interactive water feature for the lotus pond. This bronze A' Design Award-winning project in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category demonstrates exceptional space optimization and innovative solutions to lighting challenges, while successfully creating an educational environment that balances functionality with aesthetic excellence.
