Heat Accumulators
Heat accumulators, also known as thermal energy storage (TES) systems, are devices that store thermal energy for later use. They are used to balance the supply and demand of heat in a building or industrial process, by storing excess heat when it is available and releasing it when it is needed. Heat accumulators are commonly used in combination with renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power, which can be intermittent and unpredictable. Heat accumulators work by storing thermal energy in a medium, such as water or a phase change material (PCM), which can absorb and release large amounts of heat without changing temperature significantly. When heat is available, it is transferred to the storage medium, which is then insulated to minimize heat loss. When heat is needed, the stored energy is released by transferring it to the building or process through a heat exchanger. Heat accumulators can be designed for different applications, depending on the required storage capacity, temperature range, and duration of storage. They can be used for heating and cooling buildings, for storing process heat in industrial applications, or for storing excess heat from power plants. They can also be integrated with other energy storage systems, such as batteries or flywheels, to provide a complete energy management solution. Overall, heat accumulators are an important technology for improving the efficiency and reliability of energy systems, and for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by enabling the use of renewable energy sources. As the demand for clean energy continues to grow, heat accumulators are likely to become an increasingly important component of energy infrastructure.
