Heart Ring Accessory is an innovative jewelry design concept that seamlessly integrates Chinese cultural heritage with contemporary accessory design, created by Australian-Chinese designer Ellen Zhu. This sophisticated collection of stackable rings draws inspiration from traditional Chinese characters containing the radical for heart, reflecting the ancient Chinese saying that Men's ten fingers are linked to the heart. The design consists of precisely crafted rings with a diameter of 19mm, manufactured using silver plated with gold and platinum finishes, allowing for versatile combinations that form different Chinese characters. The conceptual foundation of this design stems from a desire to make Chinese characters more accessible and interactive for a global audience, transforming linguistic elements into wearable art. The rings function both independently and as modular components, enabling wearers to create various Chinese characters by combining different pieces according to their emotional state or aesthetic preference. This innovative approach to jewelry design earned recognition with a Golden A' Design Award in the Jewelry Design category, acknowledging its unique contribution to cultural expression through accessible design. The project, completed between June and August 2016 and showcased at the 2016 Beijing Design Week, represents a significant achievement in bridging cultural boundaries through functional art, allowing people regardless of their linguistic background to experience and appreciate the architectural beauty of Chinese characters through daily wear.
