Heart poster Series is a profound typographic exploration of Chinese characters and emotional complexity, created by designer Jen-Wei Huang. This innovative poster series, which earned the Bronze A' Design Award in Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design category, masterfully investigates the relationship between language, emotion, and human consciousness through the artistic manipulation of Chinese characters containing the 'heart' radical. The work spans an impressive dimension of 8410mm x 5940mm and employs a sophisticated layering technique where characters are systematically stacked and overlaid to create a visually striking composition. The series draws its philosophical foundation from Oriental wisdom, particularly exploring the concept that while a peaceful mind remains eternal, emotions are in constant flux. Through meticulous design execution, the series showcases 525 different Chinese characters containing the 'heart' radical, each carefully arranged to demonstrate the evolution of human emotional complexity. The artistic presentation mimics the aesthetic of acrylic plate painting, achieved through careful consideration of stroke thickness and visual rhythm. Developed between August and October 2015 in Taiwan, this work represents a contemporary interpretation of traditional Chinese typography, deliberately moving away from conventional calligraphic methods to present the inherent beauty and spirit of Chinese characters in a modern context. The project's significance lies in its ability to bridge Eastern philosophical concepts with contemporary graphic design, creating a visual narrative that speaks to the universal human experience while maintaining a distinctly Chinese cultural identity. The series effectively communicates how simple, innate human nature becomes increasingly complex through the accumulation of emotional and linguistic layers, ultimately reflecting on the paradoxical nature of change as the only constant in human experience.
