Heart By Tree Villa House

Heart By Tree Villa House

Heart By Tree Villa House is an innovative architectural masterpiece situated in Gunung Pulai, Malaysia, exemplifying a harmonious blend of traditional Chinese courtyard house design principles with contemporary sustainable architecture. Completed in July 2020, this 10,000-square-foot villa complex consists of four distinct building blocks arranged around a central courtyard, incorporating sophisticated environmental considerations and cultural symbolism. The design, conceived by Summer Chang Hin Cheong, features a high-ceiling lobby, karaoke lounge, kitchen, dining area, and eight bedrooms that encircle a decorative pond, creating a seamless integration between indoor and outdoor spaces. A distinguishing characteristic of the villa is its innovative use of lawn and meadow roofing systems for the bedrooms, utilizing zinc and fiber chassis to provide superior heat insulation in Malaysia's tropical climate. The property's landscape design is particularly noteworthy for its incorporation of two transplanted ancestral trees, which serve as symbolic representations of gratitude and success, alongside carefully selected willow plants that contribute to the villa's microclimate regulation. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, overcame significant construction challenges, including successfully transplanting a 5-tonne mature tree after three attempts on hillside terrain during heavy rainfall conditions. The villa's sustainable approach is evident in its resourceful use of reclaimed materials, including ceramic tiles, granite, and glass, demonstrating a commitment to environmental responsibility while maintaining aesthetic excellence. The design philosophy draws inspiration from the two-thousand-year-old Chinese architectural tradition of Siheyuan (courtyard houses), reimagining these principles for contemporary luxury living while providing practical solutions for wildlife protection and climate control in its tropical forest setting.
