Head Restraints For Vehicles
Head restraints, also known as headrests, are safety features found in most modern vehicles. They are designed to prevent or limit the movement of a vehicle occupant's head during a rear-end collision or other types of accidents. The primary function of head restraints is to reduce the risk of whiplash injuries, which occur when the head is suddenly jerked backward and then forward, causing damage to the neck and spine. Head restraints are typically attached to the top of the vehicle's seatback and are positioned behind the head of the occupant. They are usually adjustable in height and tilt to accommodate different occupant sizes and seating positions. The correct positioning of the head restraint is critical to its effectiveness. It should be positioned as close to the back of the head as possible and be at least at the level of the top of the ears. The design of head restraints has evolved over time to improve their effectiveness. In the past, head restraints were often too low or too soft to provide adequate protection. Today, most head restraints are designed to be taller and firmer, providing better support for the head and neck during a collision. Some head restraints are even designed to move forward during a collision to further reduce the risk of whiplash injuries. In addition to their safety benefits, head restraints can also provide comfort and support for vehicle occupants during normal driving. They can help reduce fatigue and neck strain, especially during long trips.
