Hans Meid

Hans Meid (1914-1995) was a German artist best known for his expressionist works in the 1940s-1950s. Meid's painting career took a great leap forward in 1937 when he was awarded a grand prize at the International Art Show in Berlin. His works of the period often featured bold outlines, intense colors and abstract backgrounds. Meid was also a pioneer of the art of murals, creating works for both public and private buildings. Among his notable works are The Red Horse (1943), The Streets of Lübeck (1949), and The Fish Market in Hamburg (1964). Meid also created a series of woodcuts and engravings depicting the life of German soldiers during World War II. His works have been included in many major exhibitions in Germany and abroad, including the Guggenheim Museum in New York City.
