Hangzhou West Lake Service Area
Hangzhou West Lake Service Area is an innovative architectural project located near Yuanpu Town of West Lake District in Hangzhou, China, encompassing a comprehensive service area spanning 61,408 square meters. This Silver A' Design Award-winning development represents a significant advancement in sustainable public architecture, drawing inspiration from Hangzhou's rich cultural heritage, particularly the city's emblematic flower, the Osmanthus. The architectural design seamlessly integrates with its surroundings through the innovative use of super white curtain wall glass and wooden grilles, complemented by Osmanthus-shaped roofs that create a distinctive dynamic effect. The interior design philosophy embraces architectural-interior integration, utilizing warm wood tones and pure colors to establish a simple yet sophisticated atmosphere. The facility incorporates cutting-edge technology, including smart capsule hotels, unmanned convenience stores, and facial recognition-enabled coffee stands, demonstrating a forward-thinking approach to reducing social contact while maintaining service efficiency. The project's innovative five-directional entrance system allows for flexible switching between one-stop and function-separation modes, effectively managing crowd flow. The two main buildings, positioned in the north and south, offer themed dining spaces that reflect local cultural elements while providing modern amenities. This reconstruction project transformed a formerly limited-scale facility into a comprehensive shopping mall-styled service area that prioritizes visitor experience and environmental sustainability, earning recognition through the prestigious A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category for its exceptional integration of cultural sensitivity, technological innovation, and sustainable design principles.
