Hangar Renovation Museum is an exemplary architectural adaptation project that transforms a historic aircraft hangar into a contemporary museum of engineering and technology, while meticulously preserving its industrial heritage and architectural integrity. The museum, designed by Polish architect Piotr Pyrtek and recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, showcases a masterful integration of historical elements with modern functionality. The structure, encompassing 2,312.39 square meters with dimensions of 40.64 meters in width and 66.88 meters in length, features a striking mezzanine suspended 3 meters above ground level, deliberately positioned away from the exterior walls to maintain the building's original character. The design philosophy emphasizes period-appropriate materials including steel, brick, concrete, and wood, creating a harmonious blend of contemporary design elements within the industrial aesthetic. The renovation project, completed in 2022, carefully preserves and showcases original features such as heating stoves and installations, while introducing new elements that respect the building's historical significance. The space is purposefully designed to accommodate both permanent exhibitions of automotive objects and various cultural events, with the impressive volume of 21,096 cubic meters providing ample space for diverse programming. The project demonstrates exceptional attention to detail in its preservation efforts, incorporating extensive architectural research and historical studies, all executed under strict heritage protection guidelines.
