Han Shang Lou Restaurant is an exemplary architectural and interior design achievement located in the Phoenix Island of Xiangqiao District, Chaozhou, Guangdong Province, China, that masterfully bridges traditional Chinese aesthetics with contemporary design sensibilities. Completed in December 2016 under the creative direction of designer Hui Ye and team, this approximately 8,000-square-meter establishment represents a sophisticated interpretation of modern Chinese dining spaces. The project's architectural composition demonstrates exceptional innovation in its use of steel structures that harmoniously integrate with the surrounding parkland while incorporating elements of traditional Chinese architecture. The interior design philosophy centers on creating a perfect synthesis of color, aroma, taste, and visual appeal, effectively capturing the essence of Chaoshan food culture. The material palette includes natural stones, Viro woven rattans, RJ veneers, oak woods, black and pink-gold stainless steel, and wired glass, all thoughtfully selected to create an atmosphere that is neither overwhelmingly traditional nor starkly modern. Despite the technical challenge of constructing three floors within a nine-meter height restriction, including a basement, the design team successfully created an elegant spatial flow that enhances the dining experience. The project, which garnered a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2019, exemplifies how contemporary restaurant design can elevate the dining experience through thoughtful spatial planning and material selection while respecting cultural heritage and natural surroundings.
