Haisi Resort is an exemplary architectural and interior design project located in the historic water town of Fuzhou, China, that masterfully integrates traditional Southern Fujian cultural elements with contemporary design sensibilities. The resort, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, represents a sophisticated interpretation of regional architectural heritage through its distinctive courtyard-style layout and meticulous attention to cultural authenticity. Designed by Nan Zheng, the resort features a series of interconnected courtyards that create private, enclosed spaces for guest accommodations, each benefiting from exclusive landscape features. The design philosophy emphasizes the preservation and celebration of local architectural traditions, incorporating characteristic elements such as high-rise roof ridges, carved beams and pillars, and decorative brick reliefs that are quintessential to Southern Fujian architecture. The interior spaces are thoughtfully arranged in a three-entry spatial configuration, beginning with a welcoming drop-off area, transitioning to carefully designed bedroom spaces that maximize views of the courtyard landscapes, and culminating in private garden areas. The resort's aesthetic is characterized by warm wooden tones accented with brown and gold details, creating an atmosphere of refined luxury. Traditional craftsmanship is prominently featured throughout the property, including exquisite mother-of-pearl inlay work, traditional lacquer paintings, and intricate wood carvings that showcase the region's rich artistic heritage. The furniture and decorative elements are specifically designed to echo the grandeur of traditional Southern Fujian residences, featuring three-dimensional ornamental details and elaborate window lattices adorned with nature-inspired motifs.
