Designed by Kevin Chu and Giulia DiBonaventura, this sophisticated piece draws inspiration from the iconic limestone karst landscapes of Guilin, China, translating their majestic forms into abstract, edge-lit acrylic mountains that rest upon an illuminated base. The design, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category, features a sophisticated construction comprising glass-reinforced acrylic mountains positioned within a metallic base equipped with low-voltage 2700K warm LED lighting. The fixture's distinctive feature lies in its dual functionality - while providing ambient illumination through edge-lit technology, it simultaneously operates as a photocatalytic air purifier, utilizing visible light to activate naturally occurring minerals that eliminate 99.99% of bacteria, viruses, CO2, NO2, formaldehyde, odors, and pollen particles. The modular design allows users to customize their lighting experience by adjusting the orientation of the mountain elements and expanding the configuration through interconnected units. Measuring 640mm in length, 444mm in height, and 100mm in depth, the lamp demonstrates a strong commitment to environmental sustainability through its use of eco-friendly paint finishes and incorporation of 40% recycled plastic in the acrylic components. When placed on reflective surfaces, the design creates an enhanced visual effect reminiscent of mountains reflected in a pristine lake, further emphasizing its biophilic design principles and connection to natural landscapes.
