Guftaguu Adaptive Seating is an innovative public furniture system designed by Pakistani architect and designer Raza Zahid that exemplifies adaptive and interactive design principles through its unique rotating seat configuration. The design, whose name derives from the Urdu word for conversation, features a sophisticated mechanism allowing three individual seats to rotate 360 degrees horizontally, enabling multiple seating arrangements that can transform from an intimate, closed configuration to an open, social layout. The system's dimensions fluctuate between 2185mm to 1470mm in length and 1140mm to 660mm in width, with a consistent height of 445mm, accommodating various social interactions and spatial requirements. Constructed with a powder-coated steel frame and wooden disc seats, the design maintains visual lightness while ensuring structural stability and durability. The seating system's ability to adapt between introvert and extrovert compositions mirrors the organic nature of human conversation and social interaction, making it particularly suitable for public spaces, waiting areas, and parks. This innovative approach to public seating earned recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, acknowledging its contribution to advancing furniture design through its focus on user interaction, spatial efficiency, and social engagement. The design emerged from extensive research into adaptive systems and interactive furniture, incorporating sophisticated 3D modeling to optimize the pivot points and seat distances, while maintaining manufacturability within local Pakistani production capabilities.
