GRND Coffee Cafe

GRND Coffee Cafe

GRND Coffee Cafe is an innovative architectural and interior design project that exemplifies sophisticated space optimization in contemporary cafe design. Located in Kuwait, this 30-square-meter establishment represents a masterful integration of form and function, distinguished by its innovative structural solution and refined aesthetic elements. The design, conceived by architects Fahad AlHumaidi and Noura Alshammari, features a distinctive separate steel structure envelope that elegantly addresses the challenges posed by the existing building's weak wall structure. The interior showcases a harmonious blend of materials, including oak wood arranged in a herringbone pattern with brass dividers, complemented by polished terrazzo flooring with brass spacers. The space's efficiency is maximized through thoughtful furniture placement, featuring upholstered benches along one wall accompanied by versatile, lightweight tables that accommodate varying patron configurations. The design philosophy emphasizes transparency and authenticity, deliberately exposing coffee machines to reflect the establishment's journey and dedication to coffee craftsmanship. This sophisticated approach to small-space commercial design earned the project a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2020, recognizing its excellence in spatial innovation, material selection, and functional layout. The project, completed in May 2019, demonstrates exceptional attention to detail in its marriage of industrial elements with refined materials, creating an atmosphere that elevates the coffee-drinking experience while maintaining operational efficiency.
