greenwich Residential is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies sophisticated space optimization through the strategic implementation of mezzanine architecture, completed in 2021 in Taiwan. The design, conceived by Sheng-Yuan Chen along with designers Huang Tzu Ting and Liu Chia Fa, draws inspiration from Manhattan's iconic external iron staircases, incorporating this aesthetic element into a contemporary living space. The project, spanning dimensions of 6350mm x 6060mm x 3930mm, masterfully addresses the challenges of limited floor area through intelligent vertical space utilization. The design's distinguishing features include a carefully engineered steel support structure that creates slender, visually permeable handrails, effectively reducing visual obstruction while maintaining structural integrity. The material palette demonstrates a commitment to environmental consciousness, featuring particle board, mineral water-based paint, and Stone Plastic Composite flooring, all selected for their low formaldehyde emissions and minimal volatile organic compounds. The design's sophisticated integration of natural light is achieved through the harmonious combination of glass and iron elements, allowing sunlight to penetrate throughout the space while creating distinct spatial divisions. This project, recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2022, successfully balances functional requirements with aesthetic refinement, creating a living environment that honors both practical needs and emotional resonance through its thoughtful architectural narrative.
