Greater White-Fronted Goose

The Greater White-Fronted Goose, also known as the Greater Whitefront, is a medium-sized bird that belongs to the family Anatidae. It is a migratory bird that breeds in the Arctic regions of North America, Europe, and Asia, and winters in the southern regions of North America, Europe, and Asia. The bird has a distinct white face and forehead, with a white line running down the neck. Its belly is barred black and white, while the upperparts and tail are barred gray-brown. The bill is pink, and the legs are orange-red. The bird has a loud, honking call and is often seen in flocks. The Greater White-Fronted Goose is a herbivorous bird that feeds on a variety of plant materials, including grasses, sedges, and aquatic plants. During the breeding season, the bird nests on the ground in a shallow depression lined with plant materials and down feathers. The female lays 4-6 eggs, which are incubated for around 25-28 days. The young birds are able to fly after around 45-50 days. The Greater White-Fronted Goose is an important game bird and is hunted in many parts of its range. The bird is also threatened by habitat loss and degradation, as well as by hunting and predation by introduced species such as foxes and rats.
