Gratification And Consciousness Residence

Gratification And Consciousness Residence

Gratification and Consciousness Residence is an award-winning architectural interior design project that masterfully integrates Eastern and Western philosophical principles to create a harmonious living space spanning 165.56 square meters. Located in Taichung City, Taiwan, this residential transformation project, completed in January 2017 by designer Chang-Feng Wang, demonstrates innovative solutions to common spatial challenges through thoughtful architectural interventions. The design's most notable feature is its ingenious treatment of natural light, incorporating an inclined yard from the original staircase construction to channel sunlight throughout the previously gloomy interior. The high-ceiling staircase, complemented by a white backdrop, serves as a light well that illuminates both upper and lower levels of the residence. The spatial composition creates a series of engaging visual narratives, with Nordic-inspired elements and carefully framed views that transform the act of ascending the stairs into a journey of discovery. The project successfully addresses the original space's limitations of darkness, disorder, and constriction through strategic reorganization of spatial elements, creating an environment that promotes both physical and psychological well-being. This innovative approach to residential design, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, exemplifies how thoughtful architectural intervention can enhance daily living experiences while fostering a deep connection between inhabitants and their living space. The design's success lies in its ability to create a tranquil yet dynamic environment that facilitates the development of meaningful family narratives while maintaining a delicate balance between functionality and aesthetic sophistication.
