Grandma Hand Made Retail is an innovative interior design project completed in Guilin, Guangxi, China, that masterfully reimagines the traditional retail dining experience through a sophisticated blend of contemporary aesthetics and nostalgic elements. The 132-square-meter space, designed by Denver Hsu along with team members Xiao Wei Zhou, Lu Zhang, and Qi Ya Lu, exemplifies a harmonious integration of functionality and emotional resonance in commercial interior design. The project, completed in September 2019, features a distinctive open kitchen layout adorned with black wood grain finishes and bronze decorative metal pipes, creating a transparent 360-degree viewing experience that showcases the handcrafted beverage preparation process. The design philosophy emphasizes simplicity and aesthetic refinement, utilizing clean gray tones and warm wood veneers to establish an atmosphere that bridges modern sophistication with homely comfort. Notable design elements include carefully curated wooden rattan cabinets, strategically placed warm lighting, and blue linen curtains that contribute to the space's imaginative appeal. The project, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2020, successfully addresses the challenge of conveying brand craftsmanship while evoking nostalgic sentiments through its thoughtful spatial arrangement and material selection.
