Grand Hyatt Dalian Specialty Restaurant is an innovative three-floor dining establishment that masterfully integrates contemporary design with traditional Chinese architectural elements, earning recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design. The restaurant's distinctive design concept treats the space as a grand apartment complex, utilizing modernized interpretations of traditional Chinese window screens crafted from ultra-thin aluminum sheets arranged in geometric patterns throughout the venue. The architectural composition features a dramatic three-story atrium positioned against expansive windows, creating an immersive dining environment that transforms throughout the day through the interplay of natural and artificial light. The space is thoughtfully segmented into three distinct functional areas - dining, drinking, and entertaining - while maintaining visual cohesion through recurring design elements. The dining area showcases panoramic ocean views and a show kitchen installation as focal points, while the entertainment floor offers a more intimate atmosphere enhanced by bespoke lighting and premium furnishings. A signature design element includes innovative aluminum box structures inspired by traditional Chinese screen patterns, which serve both aesthetic and functional purposes, creating fascinating shadow plays and reflecting light in unpredictable ways. The design successfully addresses the challenge of Dalian's severe winter climate by creating a year-round destination that maintains individual character across its various spaces while achieving a harmonious overall aesthetic. The project, completed between 2015 and 2017, demonstrates exceptional attention to local craftsmanship and cultural integration, featuring architectural elements that encourage social interaction and observation, much like the traditional Chinese courtyard experience.
