Grand Gourmet Shop is an innovative retail space and culinary destination that masterfully combines traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology in its architectural and interior design. Located in Shanghai's Xintiandi district, this 166-square-meter flagship establishment transcends conventional retail boundaries by functioning as a multifaceted space encompassing a shop, gallery, and event venue. The design, conceived by architects Zhenfei Wang and Luming Wang, employs a sophisticated computer-generated algorithm to create a distinctive fractal hexagon pattern that serves both aesthetic and functional purposes. This architectural approach demonstrates exceptional spatial organization while paying homage to the artisanal products showcased within. The space's design philosophy reflects the fusion of traditional French culinary craftsmanship with contemporary lifestyle elements, particularly evident in its presentation of premium products such as Toulouse grey goose liver prepared using centuries-old French techniques. The interior's materiality, incorporating brass and glass-reinforced plastic (GRP), is enhanced through a combination of advanced manufacturing processes including 3D milling and laser cutting, complemented by meticulous hand-finishing techniques. Completed in September 2016 after a seven-month development period, the project earned recognition with a Platinum A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its innovative approach to retail space design and its successful integration of computational design with traditional craftsmanship.
