Gorilla®-mobile: Smartphone alarm system Smartphone Alarm System is a pioneering security device designed specifically for protecting smartphones and tablets during charging, representing a significant innovation in mobile device security. This groundbreaking system, developed through an international collaboration between design teams from the Netherlands, Vietnam, and Germany, introduces a hardware-based security solution that operates independently of smartphone applications. The device features a compact and iconic design measuring 98mm in length, 54mm at its broadest point, and 18mm in thickness, engineered to be easily portable while incorporating sophisticated security features. Constructed using PC-ABS for the main body and a translucent polycarbonate ring with integrated LED indicators, the system employs a unique tethering mechanism that connects between the charging cable and device, securing mobile devices against opportunistic theft. The design incorporates an electronic key system that, when activated, triggers a high-decibel alarm if any unauthorized disconnection is attempted. This innovative approach to mobile device security earned recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Digital and Electronic Device Design category, acknowledging its contribution to addressing the growing concern of smartphone theft and data security. The system's versatility extends beyond smartphones to protect tablets and laptops through an additional loop mechanism, while its construction utilizing standard molding techniques ensures feasibility for mass-market production. The design philosophy emphasizes user-friendly operation while maintaining robust security features, requiring no software installation or complex setup procedures, making it particularly valuable in public charging scenarios where device vulnerability is heightened.
