Gloria Sofa

Gloria Sofa

Gloria Sofa is an innovative furniture design that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of form and function, distinguished by its unique structural aesthetic where the internal framework deliberately emerges through a precise cut in the padding, creating a striking visual statement. Conceived by Italian designer Paolo Demel and featuring sketches by Gloria Trevisan, this contemporary seating solution represents a significant advancement in customizable furniture design. The sofa's dimensions of 1800mm width, 806mm depth, and 718mm height with a seat height of 406mm are carefully calculated to ensure optimal ergonomic comfort. Its most distinctive feature is the seamless integration of a continuous steel supporting structure that extends both internally through the variable density polyurethane foam cushions and externally as a visible design element. This innovative approach to furniture construction not only serves an aesthetic purpose but also efficiently distributes weight across the entire structure, ensuring structural integrity and longevity. The design incorporates an adaptable glass shelf system that can be adjusted along the exposed armrest structure, adding functional versatility to its artistic appeal. A particularly noteworthy aspect is its magnetic customization system, which allows for the attachment of various additional elements, enabling hundreds of different configurations while maintaining the sofa's distinctive character. The design, which won the Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2020, stands as a testament to thoughtful interior design innovation, suitable for both professional environments such as office reception areas and museum galleries, as well as residential spaces where it serves as a bold statement piece. The project holds deep emotional significance as it honors the memory of Gloria Trevisan, who contributed to its initial development before tragically losing her life in the Grenfell Tower incident of 2017.
