Global Hub Square Offices

Global Hub Square Offices is an innovative architectural project completed in April 2022 on Awaji Island, Japan, representing a pioneering approach to modern workplace design that harmoniously integrates corporate functionality with natural surroundings. The architectural concept draws profound inspiration from Japanese mythology, specifically referencing the island's sacred status as the first land created by deities. The design features a series of elegant arches and a prominent central staircase that metaphorically ascends to the heavens, creating a symbolic connection between the earthly and divine realms. Spanning a substantial lot size of 2,980 square meters, the complex encompasses multiple structures including an 844-square-meter office building, a 719-square-meter food and beverage facility, and a 694-square-meter central building, totaling 2,257 square meters of floor area. The project, designed by Satoshi Itasaka, emerged as a response to post-pandemic workplace transformation in Japan, relocating corporate operations from Tokyo to a serene forest setting. The design prioritizes environmental integration through large windows that maximize natural light and ventilation, while a communal cafeteria serves locally-sourced meals, fostering connection between employees and island residents. This innovative approach to corporate architecture earned recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, acknowledging its exceptional blend of functional efficiency, cultural sensitivity, and environmental consciousness. The project stands as a testament to contemporary workplace evolution, successfully balancing professional requirements with natural harmony and local community engagement.
