GID Office Office

GID Office Office is an award-winning architectural renovation project that exemplifies the thoughtful transformation of a historical building into a contemporary workspace while preserving its cultural heritage. Located in downtown Shanghai, this innovative office design occupies 680 square meters across the first and second floors of a four-story structure dating back to the Republic of China era. The design philosophy centers on reimagining the traditional office environment by incorporating an art museum concept on the first floor, creating a unique hybrid space that challenges conventional workplace paradigms. The exterior renovation features a striking transformation from grey to white iron facade with black frame accents, establishing a serene presence within its urban context. Notable architectural interventions include raising the roof by 30 centimeters and creating an impressive void space above the entrance, achieved by removing the floor slab between the first and second floors. This modification dramatically improves natural lighting and creates a dynamic interior landscape featuring an artistically conceived staircase. The design successfully addresses spatial constraints by implementing multifunctional areas, such as combining reader and meeting spaces. The interior aesthetic is characterized by a sophisticated palette of black, white, and grey, punctuated by a bold red box between the second and third floors that serves as a visual terminus to the staircase. The project, completed in December 2018, earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, recognizing its excellence in spatial innovation and cultural preservation. The bathroom design particularly stands out for its unconventional approach, utilizing bright colors to transform typically utilitarian spaces into aesthetic showcases, reflecting the project's overall mission to redefine workplace environments as spaces of enjoyment and artistic appreciation.
