Gear Pumps
Gear pumps are positive displacement pumps that are commonly used in a wide range of industrial applications. They work by using a set of gears to transfer fluid from the inlet to the outlet of the pump. The gears rotate in opposite directions, and the fluid is trapped between the teeth of the gears and the pump casing, creating a continuous flow of fluid. One of the main advantages of gear pumps is their ability to handle a wide range of fluids, including viscous liquids such as oils and syrups. They are also relatively simple in design, which makes them easy to maintain and repair. Gear pumps are often used in applications where a constant flow of fluid is required, such as in hydraulic systems, fuel transfer systems, and lubrication systems. There are two main types of gear pumps: external gear pumps and internal gear pumps. External gear pumps have two gears that rotate outside of the pump casing, while internal gear pumps have one gear that rotates inside of another gear. Internal gear pumps are typically more efficient than external gear pumps, but they are also more complex in design. Despite their many advantages, gear pumps do have some limitations. They are not suitable for high-pressure applications, as the gears can become damaged if subjected to high pressures. They are also not ideal for handling abrasive fluids, as the gears can wear down over time. In summary, gear pumps are positive displacement pumps that are widely used in a variety of industrial applications. They are known for their ability to handle viscous fluids and their simple design, but they are not suitable for high-pressure or abrasive applications.
