GC House House
GC House House is an award-winning architectural renovation project that transformed a Victorian terraced house in West London into a contemporary living space characterized by its innovative use of natural light and spatial harmony. The design, completed in 2016, represents a sophisticated approach to modern residential architecture while respecting the historical facade of the Victorian structure. The comprehensive renovation encompassed 3,950 square feet across four levels, including a kitchen extension, loft conversion, and basement development. At the heart of the design is a striking glass staircase that serves as both a functional element and an architectural centerpiece, allowing light to flow effortlessly through all floors while creating visual continuity throughout the space. The project's material palette combines clear and frosted glass, matte white aluminum, and natural wood elements, specifically douglas fir and oak herringbone flooring, to create a series of interconnected spaces that promote social interaction and flexible living. The design successfully overcame technical challenges, particularly in the execution of cantilever elements in the glass stairs and dining table, while implementing innovative structural solutions around the skylights. This architectural achievement, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, demonstrates excellence in combining aesthetic refinement with practical functionality, transforming a traditional Victorian house into a bright, contemporary home that emphasizes spatial flow and natural illumination.
