Gather Tableware

Gather Tableware is an innovative ceramic dining set that reimagines traditional tableware through architectural inspiration drawn from Beijing's imperial architecture, specifically designed to enhance the dining experience while celebrating cultural heritage. This sophisticated collection, which won an Iron A' Design Award in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware and Cookware Design category, represents a significant departure from conventional restaurant tableware by incorporating modular elements that can be assembled to create an artistic architectural display before dining. The design, measuring 200mm in width, 250mm in depth, and 300mm in height, transforms the dining experience by allowing users to interact with the pieces in a unique way - the components can be arranged to form a building-like structure as a decorative centerpiece, then separated into individual bowls and plates during the meal. Created through a meticulous ceramic production process that overcame challenges of high-temperature firing and deformation, this tableware set exemplifies the intersection of functionality and artistic expression. The design team, led by Jia Jing along with collaborators Zeng Jing, Wang Aihong, Liu Shiping, Liu Weiyu, and Xu Weiwei, developed this concept between April 2017 and August 2018, specifically targeting high-end dining establishments and hot pot restaurants. The project's primary objective was to elevate the dining experience by introducing elements of local architecture and cultural significance into everyday tableware, thereby creating a more engaging and culturally rich dining environment that moves beyond mere functionality to become a conversation piece that enhances the overall spatial aesthetics of restaurants.
