GapS Air Purification Panel
GapS Air Purification Panel is an innovative building material and construction component designed to combat urban air pollution while providing additional functional benefits to buildings. This multifunctional construction panel, developed by Danish-based designer Morteza Ghorbani Eftekhar, represents a significant advancement in sustainable architectural solutions, incorporating smart design principles to naturally vacuum and purify polluted air. The panel, measuring 1000mm x 1000mm x 8mm and weighing 10 kg, is engineered using a sophisticated combination of cement, fiberglass, and polystyrene, enhanced with specialized photocatalytic nanomaterials coating. Its innovative design facilitates the absorption of various pollutants, including nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur oxides (SOx), volatile organic compounds (VOC), and particulate matter, through a natural ventilation process that leverages wind patterns, air density variations, and building height. The panel's smart turbulency design enhances pollutant interaction, achieving three to four times greater absorption efficiency compared to conventional solutions. Beyond its primary air purification function, the system offers additional benefits including thermal insulation, acoustic dampening, and rainwater harvesting capabilities. The fire-retardant and fully recyclable panels feature a LEGO-type installation system for easy implementation. This groundbreaking design, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Building Materials and Construction Components Design category, demonstrates significant potential for improving urban air quality and building performance. The system's development was driven by the pressing global challenge of air pollution, which claims approximately eight million lives annually, and represents a practical, scalable solution for modern urban environments.
