GanDan Bench is an innovative furniture design that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of traditional Japanese craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetic sensibilities. Created through a meticulous handcrafting process inspired by the natural phenomenon of silkworm spinning and cocooning, this distinctive bench represents a significant advancement in sustainable furniture design. The piece is characterized by its unique construction method, which involves continuously enlacing golden teak wood veneer in circles and layers, creating a seamless, streamlined form that measures 900mm in length, 300mm in width, and 450mm in height. This innovative approach to furniture making draws inspiration from the traditional Bunaco technique of Aomori Prefecture, Japan, while introducing novel material applications through the use of golden teak veneer, selected for its superior gloss and flexibility. The bench's construction incorporates an internal foam structure, resulting in a paradoxical user experience where the visually solid wooden form yields a surprisingly comfortable, elastic sitting sensation. A notable achievement in sustainable design, the production process generates virtually no waste materials, as the continuous wrapping technique utilizes the veneer material in its entirety. The design has received international recognition, earning a Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, acknowledging its outstanding contribution to innovative material usage and craftsmanship excellence.
