GanBei A Lounge Bar is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of traditional Chinese cultural elements with contemporary aesthetics, created by designers Angie C. Chang and Ching-Hsiang Peng. Located in Taiwan's technology hub, this 60-square-meter establishment transforms a partitionless room into a sophisticated afterdark lounge that serves as an atmospheric retreat for tech professionals. The design concept draws profound inspiration from Chinese historical period drama and traditional medicine shops, cleverly incorporating authentic vintage cabinet hardware and accessories that create an intentional dialogue between Eastern and Western influences. The space features ultra-black cement paint on the ceiling and stone-patterned PVC flooring, complemented by pine blue and violet dyed velvet seating that creates a striking visual contrast reminiscent of cosmic nebulae. A notable architectural element is the LED-inserted ceiling lamp positioned above the 3-meter-long bar, crafted from a traditional Taiwanese house beam, adding temporal depth to the contemporary space. The project, whose name translates to Cheers in Chinese, overcame significant technical challenges through innovative solutions such as implementing a floating floor system to address drainage issues. The interior's sophisticated lighting system, controlled via microchip, allows for situational ambiance adjustment, while the careful selection of materials and accessories creates a deliberate tension between vintage and modern elements. This exceptional design earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2019, recognizing its outstanding contribution to spatial design innovation and cultural preservation.
