Gable House Multifunctional Office

Gable House Multifunctional Office is an innovative architectural interior design project located on the 15th floor of a traditional business building in central Beijing, China, distinguished by its sophisticated approach to space transformation and light manipulation. The design, created by Nolan Chao and Na Cheung, features a distinctive shallow reddish-blond wall treatment that has been strategically divided and distributed across different vertical levels, with the most prominent wall incorporating gable house-inspired doors and windows that blur the boundaries between exterior and interior spaces. The space employs multiple layers of frosted glass and light ocher walls, assembled into a complete rectangular configuration that maintains structural integrity while managing southern sunlight exposure. A central rotating mirror door and mirrored stainless steel frames create dynamic light reflections and sight lines, enhancing natural illumination throughout the deeper sections of the office. The design divides the open area into four distinct zones through a longitudinal channel and high wall system, deliberately avoiding rigid boundaries to maximize spatial flexibility. This multifunctional space seamlessly integrates office, entertainment, and exhibition functions, creating an environment that encourages user interaction and self-reflection through carefully placed mirror panels. The project, which won an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, exemplifies how thoughtful architectural interventions can transform traditional office spaces into dynamic, multi-purpose environments that balance functionality with aesthetic sophistication.
