Furusaki Tokyo Office
Furusaki Tokyo Office is an innovative architectural masterpiece completed in March 2017, situated in the densely populated Nakano-ku district of Tokyo, Japan. This remarkable three-story steel construction, designed by Hiroyuki Niwa and Yuki Imafuku, exemplifies exceptional space utilization within a compact 296-square-meter footprint. The building's distinctive design philosophy centers on the concept of functional boxes that are three-dimensionally stacked, creating a visually striking facade that challenges conventional perceptions of floor divisions. The structure ingeniously incorporates ten distinct rooms, each serving specific purposes including office spaces, meeting rooms, a factory, truck loading area, and residential quarters. The architects employed locally-sourced timber from Fukui Prefecture for both exterior and interior elements, establishing a strong connection to the client's origins and emphasizing sustainable building practices. The project's innovative approach to spatial organization and multifunctional design earned it the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category in 2018, recognizing its exceptional contribution to architectural design excellence. The building's interior spaces feature diverse thematic elements that enhance the unique character of each functional zone, while the exterior composition reflects the internal complexity through its dynamic volumetric arrangement, creating a harmonious balance between form and function in one of Tokyo's most space-constrained urban environments.
