This temporary pavilion, constructed for the Shanghai International Furniture Fair 2019, represents a groundbreaking approach to sustainable exhibition design through its ingenious use of materials and transformative capabilities. The structure employs 821 pieces of prefabricated local market standard size plywood as its primary construction material, enabling rapid assembly and disassembly within a 48-hour timeframe, significantly reducing both construction time and costs. The pavilion's sophisticated design features a hyperboloid roof supported by positive and negative arch-beam steel structures, covered with semi-transparent tensile fabric that provides weatherproofing while ensuring even distribution of natural light throughout the 150-square-meter showroom space. The facade's composition of modular plywood units serves dual purposes, functioning both as structural elements and display coves, effectively blurring traditional architectural boundaries between doors, windows, and walls. What sets this pavilion apart is its revolutionary post-exhibition lifecycle - the entire structure was ingeniously designed to be transformed into 410 sets of hexagonal tables and rectangular chairs for nearby community use, demonstrating an exemplary model of sustainable design practices. This innovative approach to exhibition design, which earned recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, presents a compelling solution to the environmental challenges posed by temporary exhibition structures in contemporary trade shows.
