Fuji Sosai Office Funeral Home Operating Company

Fuji Sosai Office Funeral Home Operating Company is an innovative interior design project completed in December 2018 in Okinawa, Japan, that revolutionizes the conventional approach to funeral home office spaces through its thoughtful and empathetic design philosophy. The project addresses the unique challenges faced by funeral industry employees by transforming their workplace into a calming, café-inspired environment that promotes emotional well-being and effective communication. The design's centerpiece features a striking wall installation that incorporates the company's name in various typographic expressions, arranged to form Mount Fuji's iconic silhouette, symbolizing unity and collective achievement. This sophisticated architectural intervention utilizes monotone plaster finishing techniques to create an embossed effect, complemented by a circular mirror representing the sun and smaller typographic elements depicting clouds. The space ingeniously balances professional functionality with recreational elements, including table tennis facilities and a bar counter, addressing the industry's human resource challenges by creating an attractive, modern workplace. The design, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional innovation in corporate interior design through its strategic use of space, materials, and symbolic elements to create a supportive work environment that helps employees decompress from their emotionally demanding responsibilities.
